Rettie & Co are one of the UK’s leading independent property specialists. The firm covers residential and new home sales, letting and property management, land and development sales and consultancy in both rural and urban areas

Project Brief

We were challenged with modernising the online presence of Rettie & Co by re-developing the user interface and simplifying the user experience of the website for the ever increasing mobile user. They requested their navigation structure be assessed, content reviewed and new functionality be put in place to better communicate important aspects of the business such as Research and Development. 

Statistical analysis showed an increase in mobile traffic to their existing site, but overall visit duration were down, indicating users’ were growing frustrated with the experience.

Ultimately the client wanted a site that provided the best possible experience across platforms, devices and interfaces, whilst accommodating the vast database of Rettie property information.

What We Did

Initially we assessed Rettie’s range of target market groups to ensure each target segment was considered based on their online behaviour and their onsite requirements. We developed personas of these groups and progressed these into user journeys to help inform the structure of the site map.

We began the prototyping stage by wireframing a series of key pages in line with the user journeys and personas. Users’ wanted to be able to search Rettie’s property database with ease - something that the old site wasn’t doing. As a result, we overhauled the search form to simplify the experience for the web user and made this a focal point on the site. 

Once the wireframes had been established, we moved into the design stage, ensuring we had catered for the multiple new features that we were presenting to visitors such as:

  • Intuitive property search 
  • Property Email Alerts
  • Save Searches
  • User Registration

Behind the scenes, we built the website using our own proprietary content management system to allow Rettie maximum control over content on their website.

The Results

Rettie now have a fully mobile responsive website with an interface built with the mobile consumer in mind. Their key services have been given prominence within the structure of the main navigation to ensure web users can browse at ease.  

The Rettie brand has been portrayed in a professional and consistent manner to ensure a smooth transition from offline to online. Users are spending more time interacting with the pages and content on the site, with overall browsing time increasing.
