Fraser Gallery
Website
Fraser Gallery and Fraser Gallery East are based in the heart of St Andrews and boast a unique and diverse collection of Scottish contemporary art including work by Alberto Morocco, Francis Boag and Jack Morrocco.
The Challenge
The brief was to create a website that was different from all other Gallery sites and should engage the user with visual stimulus - after all, people are here to see the paintings! Pages should be quite minimal, without clutter with only the necessary info on show.
The Solution
The solution is a very simple website with most of the top level pages having easily digestible content. The homepage is probably the most minimal page of all and only contains the logo and navigation and a large fullscreen background image.
This background image is randomly selected from a pool of available images which the client can keep up to date.
The background image on the homepage is a nice feature, but this feature really shines when you investigate the individual artworks within the Artists section of the website. As well as showcasing the piece of art, a massive blown up version of the same image is used as the page background. This allows users to see a close up area of the painting to see detail or texture, adding a new dimension to online viewing.
Another feature of the website is that it scales to the full size of the viewers browser window. If shown full-screen this website offers an even more visual experience.
